Our Story

It was the year 2006 and I was a freshman in NTU NBS. You were going into your year 2 in NTU NBS as well. We have both joined the organising committee of Impresario 2007 and were programmers. The first time I saw you, you left some impression on me, not because I was attracted to you (oops hah), but more because of your height at 1.75m, really tall for a girl. I am not one who fall in love at first sight. On first impression, you appeared as someone gentle and easy-going. But no sparks, yet.

In the course of organising Impresario, the programmers had plenty of chances to meet up and work together amidst our hectic academic schedules. Especially during the times nearer to auditions, semi final and grand final, the 9 of us were like seeing each other every other day, including weekends. We all got along pretty well and had regular gatherings (to KTV especially!). Hence it was a great chance to get to know each other better. Feelings started to develop in December 2006. I felt very comfortable being with you, and I kind of knew you were the girl for me.

After the grand final of Impresario 2007 in March 2007, it was sad that the event that we spent so much time and effort organising for the past 8 months was over. But it was great that the programmers were still close and we still did meet up every now and then. Some of us also find time to mug together for the exams. And we also went on solo dates!

I signed up for the Work and Travel USA 2007 program where I will be heading to the USA for 3 months in a summer job during my may-july vacation. And I guess it was time to make my feelings to you known, before I flew. The day was 2 May 2007. At the little pavilion near your house, I took ages (like one hour? haha) to muster enough courage tell you I like you and want you to be my girlfriend. You felt the same and our hands locked, tightly. It was a magical and out-of-the-world feeling. We have officially become a couple.

A few days later, I flew to Ohio for my WAT USA program. In the 3 months in totally opposite time zones, we kept in touch via emails, msn and the occassional calls. I had a lot of fun during that 3 months, but I was constantly hoping you were there to share my joy.

In August 2007, you began your final year while I started on my second year. It was a stressful year for you with your FYP and job-hunting. However, the simple pleasures in life got us going. And it was comforting to know there is always someone there by your side to share your ups and downs. You graduated in July 2008 and successfully landed a job, while it was my turn to experience the stress of a final year student.

We were initially worried about this new chapter in our relationship – You being in the corporate world while I was still a student. You would get to meet new people, had earning power, and faced different issues and challenges that I might not be able to relate to and comprehend with. But things went smoothly, better than what I have anticipated. We were still going strong despite our different “statuses”. Time flew, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary in 2009 and it was my turn to graduate.

As we both started working, our lifestyles changed abit. We could afford to dine at more expensive places, went on holidays (not too expensive kind yet though) and explore new places with the little vios. We were there for each other to grumble about our jobs (I was mostly the listener haha), and we learnt to better cherish the weekends and off days, and each other’s company. December 2009 was another milestone in our relationship, as we first applied for an HDB BTO flat – Skyville and Sky Terrace at Dawson. This significant step meant alot. It meant that we were ready to commit to each other.

The year 2010 saw you changing a new job and me pondering if I am suited for my job. I was touched when you were fully supportive of me should I decide to change to a highly-likely lower-paying job. It would definitely mean some changes (for the worse) in our current lifestyles but you wanted me to be happy above all other things. For you, and our future, I would stay on and try my best to like my job.

We just celebrated our 4th anniversary together and I am looking forward to many many more beautiful moments with you. I also feel it is time to bring our relationship to the next level, to open a new chapter, and create our future together.

I love you, always.

You and me
